DEPARTMENT OF Mechanical Engineering
Department

Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year of 1998.It
follows the curriculum prescribed by Anna University for the award of
B.E. Degree. The Department is well equipped with well established
Laboratories. In the department there are fifteen experienced teaching
staff and one supporting staff (Civil Engineering). To render service to
the students in the laboratories there are six Technical Assistants and
Seven Technicians.
Twenty students are allotted with one Staff Adviser to monitor their
attendance, academic performance, discipline and for general
guidance.Periodical Tests are conducted regularly to give effective
coaching in academic activities.Seminar Classes are made compulsory in
the time table for effective interaction about modern
developments.Students are given opportunities to periodically visit
industries and during vacation in plant trainings are organized.
To encourage the co-curricular activities, the Department has a
Mechanical Engineering Technical Association (META), which conducts
Lectures workshops, Seminars and Symposium to share the knowledge in the
field of Mechanical Engineering.
META conducts a national level technical Symposium MISSION
every year. Students from various colleges in the State participate in
this symposium. Importance is given for paper presentation, product
design, Technical Quiz Etc. It gives opportunity for our students not
only to participate in the deliberations but also to get experience in
the organizational skills. We encourge our students to participate
inpaper presentation and other competitions in various institutions.
ISTE-Students chapter is established to gear up students technical
knowledge.
Renewable energy club functioning effective to up to date knoeledge on
renewable energy power.

IV. SOME OF THE SPECIAL PROJECTS DONE BY OUR STUDENTS:-
Already three batches of students have submitted their
projects. Some of the outstanding projects are given below:
1. Fabrication and Testing of Heat pipes:
It is a compact heat exchanger with evaporation and condensation of low
volatile liquid. Thus large amount of heat is transferred in a small
area.
2. Design and Fabrication of Magnetic mould for non ferrous metals:
Instead of sand moulding, steel shots are used with Magnetic power , to
produces cavity and mould.
3. Structural Analysis of Connecting Rod:-
Using ANSYS software stress, failure, deformation, elongation, Dimension
changes, in a connecting rod are analysed for optimum solution.
4. Advanced Bio-Mass Gasification Technology:-
In the depleting fossil fuel, alternate fuel is essential for power
generation Bio-Mass is available in plenty. An advanced gassifier is
designed to produce bio gas.
5. Design and Fabrication of Vortex Tube:-
Vortex tube is used to produce refrigeration effect.. Compressed air is
expanded in a vortex tube where energy transfer takes place to get cold
effect at one end and hot at another end.
V. STATE LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM :
State level Technical symposium(Mech.fest 08) was
conducted by mech.dept. on 20th march 2008,student from
various colleges in the state participated in the various programs
(paper presentations, technical Quiz ,etc., Special lectures in the
Topics of recent trends in mechcanical engg).
